Cutting the cost of learning with UNISON

It’s back to school season! If shop displays of stationery and shiny black shoes are putting you in the mood to learn something new, you might well find that being a UNISON member puts you at an advantage.

Members are entitled to discounts on all sorts of courses, from short and sharp to full degree length, from personal interest to professional development, from face-to-face to distance learning.

Here’s a round-up of the opportunities that are available to you:

Get a 10% discount on the cost of GCSEs, A-levels, and vocational courses with the National Extension College. All you need to do is let them know that you’re a UNISON member when you enrol, and they’ll adjust the cost of the course accordingly.

Discover a huge range of courses at e-Careers – with everything from computing basics to PRINCE2® project management, via bookkeeping, web design, and modern foreign languages, there’s a distance learning course to suit all interests. UNISON members can claim a 10% discount by quoting ‘UNISON10’ at checkout.

You can claim a 5% discount on distance law courses (excluding legal practice course or postgraduate Diploma in Law) from the CILEx Law School.

The Open College of the Arts offers one-off courses and degrees in the creative arts through distance learning. UNISON members can claim £100 off their first course unit.

Birkbeck, University of London, offers a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees through evening study. Union members can claim a 10% discount.

The University of Wolverhampton also offers a 10% discount to union members on part-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

And it’s always worth remembering that if you’re studying at your own expense, you may be able to claim help towards the cost of study with UNISON’s bursary scheme.

It’s not just courses, either. Crossbow Education offers UNISON members a discount of 10% on their range of stationery and resources that help alleviate visual stress. Use the code ‘UNISON18’ to claim it.

Take a look and see where UNISON learning could take you… this autumn, and into the future!
