This autumn we have an exciting programme of learning events for UNISON members and activists. We’ll be working with organisations including The Money Charity, Hydrocracker Theatre Company, and Cruse Bereavement Care, as well as our own in-house experts, to bring you the knowledge and skills you need.
Whether you’re looking to improve your financial wellbeing, deepen your knowledge of employment law, or find out how to support colleagues dealing with mental illness, we have something for you. Hurry, though – some of these are filling up fast!
As always, remember to check your region’s activist education and member learning programmes too – the national offering is only a fraction of what’s out there.
22 September – Caring for Adults
New in our offer from The Open University this year, this online workshop is suitable for anyone who cares for elderly people, whether that’s in your personal life or as part of your job. UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside have some spare places and have invited UNISON members from across the UK to join.
28 September – Financial Wellbeing for UNISON members
We’re very happy to be working with There For You and The Money Charity to offer all UNISON members a lunchtime webinar to help them stay on top of their finances, manage their money better, and plan for the future.
29 September-20 October – Union Learning Reps (ULR training)
If you’re a newly appointed union learning rep, or if you’ve been one for a while but haven’t managed to get on a training course, we’d love to see you for our national online introductory training.
4 October-19 November – New Stewards course
Get confident organising and representing UNISON members in the workplace with our introductory course for new stewards.
7 October – Poems for Change
We’re marking National Poetry Day with a morning workshop led by Hydrocracker Theatre Company. An opportunity to explore the power of words in working for a better world, as well as to discover your own creativity, this workshop was very popular when we ran it earlier this year, and we’re delighted to provide it once again.
7 October – Learning Café
Are you a UNISON learning rep? Or are you interested in supporting UNISON member learning? Join us for an informal online conversation about all things UNISON learning, share advice, find support, and connect with like-minded people. Whether you’re a very experienced ULR, new in the role, or haven’t even signed up yet, we’d be delighted to see you!
15-22 October – Your Skills, Your Future
One of the most popular on our member learning offer, this two-session course helps you recognise the skills you already have and explore where to take them next.
18-28 October – Mental Health First Aid
UNISON recognises mental health as part of a wider discussion around health and wellbeing at work and believes in the value of a collective approach. This course for experienced UNISON reps aims to support that, establishing practical support in the workplace.
25-29 October – Health and Safety reps training
Full training for new health and safety reps. Whether you’ve signed up recently as part of the Be On The Safe Side campaign, or have been a health and safety rep for several years, this course will get you up to speed and confident keeping your colleagues safe in the workplace.
2 November – Bereavement Awareness
Since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve been working with Cruse Bereavement Care to offer online training to help our members understand the grieving process and support others who have been bereaved. These workshops have been very popular and come with recommendations from previous participants.
10-17 November – Get That Job
If you want to make changes in your life before this year is out, this may be the way to do it. Our Get That Job course gets you revamping your CV, ramping up your job applications, and interviewing with confidence.
