Financial Wellbeing for UNISON members

These last two years have been challenging in many ways – not least financially. And the winter months bring money challenges of their own.

This autumn, UNISON Learning and Organising and There For You worked with The Money Charity to bring UNISON members a webinar on financial wellbeing.

Lynsey Sykes Davis from The Money Charity shared tips on:

  • Ways to become more financially resilient
  • The importance of budgeting and keeping track of your money
  • Credit options and managing debt
  • The benefits of saving
  • UNISON and other organisations offering information and support.

Over 200 UNISON members watched the webinar live. One participant let us know:

I do not have a great credit rating.  However, since watching the seminar back, I decided to go on to a money comparison site to see if I could get a consolidation loan, and I got one approved!  I have managed to consolidate my debts, meaning not only is the interest rate lower and my monthly outgoings have reduced, but I will be debt free in 5 years, whereas before I was barely paying back the interest monthly on my credit cards.  I have cancelled the cards so that I don’t get tempted to use them again too.  This week I am going to look at savings accounts and set one up that isn’t too easy to access! I am fortunate enough to have some savings already, but want to top them up with some of the money I now have leftover each month thanks to the consolidation loan.

You can still watch a recording of the webinar – you’ll just need to enter your name and email address when prompted.
