Advanced Employment Law – Sexual Orientation Discrimination 2025

6 February 2025 9:00am–1:00pm

This half-day course is part of our expanding set of courses on discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. It looks at the protection against discrimination in relation to sexual orientation. It covers how to interview a member sensitively; what constitutes legal harassment in this particular context including issues of ‘outing’ a worker and making false assumption; and where religious belief clashes with gay rights.

The course also provides reps with guidance on general issues which come up where harassment is based on any protected characteristic, not just sexual orientation, e.g. whether an employer is liable for out-of-work harassment and whether harassment is entirely self-defined under the legal definition.

A small amount of pre-course work will be expected to make the most of the time on the day.

The course will be delivered virtually over Microsoft Teams, 9am – 1pm on Thursday 6th February.
