LGBT+ Branch Officer Training (In Person)

This session will focus on defining the role of a LGBT+ branch officer or contact, specifically:

  • Sign Post and Identify how to access resources, make useful links.
  • Develop strategies for supporting LGBT+ members.
  • Identify how to organise and campaign for equality and get equality issues on the bargaining agenda, with some actions points and next steps.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand why LGBT+ equalities is a trade union issue.
  • Know about UNISON’s structures and Self organised groups within UNISON.
  • Develop what skills, knowledge and experience make up the Branch LGBT+ Officer.
  • Be clear about where to go for more support and further information.
  • Identify how to organise and campaign for equality and get equality issues on the bargaining agenda with some practical steps to take back to the branch.

Attendees should expect to participate in group activities and discussions to help share skills, knowledge and experience and understanding the Branch LGBT+ Officer role.

This course is delivered at UNISON Centre, London, on Monday 8th September by staff from our Equalities Unit and Learning and Organising Services. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. It lasts one full day, 10am – 4pm, with lunch provided.

Your branch will be charged a fee for your attendance:

  • Residential rate (inc. hotel accommodation): £225
  • Non-residential rate: £50

LGBT+ Branch Officer Training (In Person) 8th September 2025

  • This will help us identify your membership record if you don't know your UNISON membership number.
  • There is a charge to the branch of either £225 (including accommodation) or £50 (training only) for this course. If you meet the minimum requirements to attend this course we will contact your branch so that your attendance can be authorised.
  • Lunch and refreshments will be provided, in addition dinner and breakfast will be included for those staying overnight.
  • If your journey to the UNISON centre takes 2 1/2 hours or longer you can request overnight accommodation for the night before the course. Please contact LAOS on l.organising@unison.co.uk if you feel you need to stay longer.
  • N.B. LAOS will only meet the cost of accommodation booked by ourselves. For accommodation request changes or late bookings, 7 days notice minimum is required.
  • We will use this information to check your UNISON membership, to seek approval from your branch for your attendance on this course, and to send you course information. If we are able to offer you a place on this training, then you will receive an email from us with further information.
  • UNISON Learning & Organising Equality Monitoring Form

  • This section of the form is entirely voluntary; however your co-operation would be appreciated. UNISON gathers this information so that participation in education and training can be monitored.
