UNISON College’s Financial Wellbeing Fortnight 2024 runs from Monday 11 November – Friday 22 November.
It is a two week series of sessions designed to help increase confidence with money management, understand debt and improve financial literacy.
These are free online events for UNISON members.
The sessions will help develop your financial management skills and knowledge, which can be applied to your personal and professional life.
The section below shows details of each session and when it will be running.
You can sign up for as many sessions as you like by completing the online registration form via the ‘Register for sessions’ event link.
All sessions will be delivered online via MS Teams or Zoom.

Week 1
Making the most of your membership
Monday 11th November 12:00pm – 1:00pm
UNISON membership offers a wide range of benefits and support on top of work-related matters that are trade unions’ bread and butter. This webinar delves into the different ways UNISON membership can help you secure deals on shopping, holidays and much more and how to apply for financial assistance and support from UNISON’s charity.
The webinar is open for everyone, both members and potential members, and covers the following:
- UNISON Living and member benefit offers
- There for You charity
- Free learning with UNISON College
- UNISON campaigning on cost of living policies.

Unison Debtline – free and confidential support for Members and their family
Tuesday 12th November 1.00pm – 2.00pm
PayPlan (Unison Debt line) is one of the largest FREE debt advice and solutions providers in the UK. Every year they support over 180,000 new clients with their finances, helping them to explore the range of different debt solutions that are available and providing guidance around the most appropriate for individual circumstances. Support is available over phone and a range of digital options including email, live chat and WhatsApp.
This session will provide attendees with insight to the support Unison members can expect to receive when contacting Unison debt line, the options available for support and the solutions to resolve debt issues. The session will also explore member case studies and referral options that members can be provided with.

Every Penny Counts – Managing your money & running a budget

This workshop is specially tailored for members who want to be more confident with money and financial management. The session will be run by UNISON College and

- Identify which money spending personality you are closest to.
- Manage your income and expenditure better, using an Excel spreadsheet to calculate
both income and expenditures.
- Set up your own personal budgeting spreadsheet.
- Understand budget management and identification of debt.
- Know how to get support from your local Union Learning Rep (ULR).
- Recognise how ‘lunch & learn’ activities can help you.
Credit Crunch Cookery
Friday 22nd November 12.00pm – 1.00pm
This workshop, created and delivered by UNISON, is designed to provide ways in which you can make your groceries go further. How to avoid waste, save money and provide for your family in a more cost-effective way. As well as providing tips and tricks to enable you to do this we will also be providing you with a selection of family friendly recipes to take away with you.
