Inequalities in Mental Health

There is often no single cause for poor mental health of diagnosable mental health conditions. However, there are risk factors in our lives that can contribute to developing poor mental health.

In our lives, there are many factors which impact on our mental health: from positive parenting and a safe place to live, to experiencing abuse, oppression, discrimination, or growing up in poverty.

Determinants of mental health interact with inequalities in society, putting some people at a far higher risk of poor mental health. This session for trained and active UNISON stewards considers some of these inequalities and how they impact mental health.
