Understanding Depression

15 May 2023 10:00am–12:00pm

Depression is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide and a major contributor to suicide and coronary heart disease. 55% of respondents, in the CIPD good work index survey, who have experienced depression in the past 12 months said work had contributed, however, only 36% discussed this with their manager or employer.

This session for trained & active UNISON stewards will give you an insight into what depression is, identify some of the signs and symptoms and how you can support someone developing depression. Spotting the early warning signs is crucial, as early intervention is important to helping someone on their recovery journey. This module will also assist you in signposting workers to professional sources of help and support if needed.
