For the first time UNISON College and The Open University have collaborated to provide members with access to university-level Microcredential courses, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Short Courses.
The courses are designed to cater for members who are returning to education or who are continuing their learning journey. The Open University’s flexible approach accommodates diverse learning styles, backgrounds and members’ varying schedules.
This is a fantastic opportunity for members to explore university-level education or targeted professional short courses to help improve skills, knowledge and career development.
The course start dates are spread across the year in March, July, October and December 2024.
Please be aware that the number of places are limited, so be sure that you can commit to completing the course before applying.
What are Microcredentials and CPD Short courses?
Microcredentials
Microcredentials are 10-week-long professional development courses that allow you to gain specialist knowledge and skills, while achieving university-level academic credit in one of the following subjects:
- Business Management: Improving Organisational Practice
- Business Management: People Management and Leadership
- Business Management: Project Management
- Climate Change: Transforming your Organisation for Sustainability

CPD Short Courses
These are targeted professional development short courses which learners can study at their own pace. They are designed to help members build a new skill set and boost their CV in one of the following subjects:
- Analytical thinking for problem solving
- Introduction to business and workplace coaching

- Developing strategy to manage uncertainty
- Managing a budget
- The impact of storytelling in business
