Financial Wellbeing Week is on the way!

This past year has been a rollercoaster for many of us: getting used to living in the midst of a pandemic, experiencing (for many of us) what lockdown means for the first time and the impact this has had on our finances.

Many UNISON members have faced financial hardship through sickness, furlough and job loss, or from the impact of working from home and UNISON’s There For You charity has been working tirelessly to provide as much support as possible to members and their families. The There For You team has seen a large increase in calls relating to financial hardship so we know that this is a concern up and down the UK. On the other side of the coin we know that for some lockdown may have meant some families have been able to save money in ways they were not able to before and face questions of how to continue this, or ways to make the most of what they have managed with this.

This is why UNISON Learning and Organising Services have organised a Financial Wellbeing Week beginning on 4 May to offer educational information and training to help support people with their understanding of, confidence with and ability to handle their finances.

UNISON General Secretary, Christina McAnea, welcomed the news of a week of workshops and webinars from 4 May covering a range of topics to support members financial wellbeing. Christina said: “This past year has been incredibly challenging for many members, the world has changed considerably and the impact this has had on our finances and financial well-being is just one of many things we have all had to consider. UNISON’s There For You charity has seen a large increase in calls relating to financial hardship so we know that this is a concern for members right across the UK.”

Sessions include:

  • Financial Wellbeing webinars
  • Pensions and Retirement Explained!
  • Financial confidence from National Numeracy
