Looking back

We’d like to say a big thank you…

To UNISON members, for keeping our public services running through a second challenging year.

To UNISON activists, for supporting our members in the challenges they’ve faced at work, standing up for workers’ rights.

To UNISON learning reps and lifelong learning coordinators, for opening up learning opportunities to members across the UK and making people’s personal and professional lives that bit more fulfilling.

To UNISON branch education coordinators, for the work you do in making sure that our activists have the skills, knowledge and confidence that they need to support our members.

To UNISON education staff and the providers we work with, for your innovation and flexibility, allowing us to deliver an ever more comprehensive programme.

Looking ahead

Looking forward to 2022, exciting things are coming in UNISON Learning as part of the UNISON College. Watch out for more news of that in the new year. In the meantime, here’s a taste of what’s on the way:

Functional Skills

We’re organising a Functional Skills English course beginning in February. This will take place at UNISON Centre and is open to members in Greater London region. It’s suitable both for members who don’t have good English skills and for those who need a qualification as evidence of their existing skills. If this is successful, we’ll be seeing how we can put on similar courses across the UK.

Developing IT Skills

Our level 1 Excel course, Getting Started, is now fully booked – but we’re very pleased to be offering a level 2 course, Making Progress. This offers further development for learners who are confident using Excel day to day but who know there’s more potential in there.

Activist training

Meanwhile, our training programme for activists is as solid as ever. Introductory training for new stewards and for new health and safety reps is open for booking now. For more experienced activists, we’re continuing to expand our series of advanced employment law courses.

Advanced employment law: Disability Discrimination Law refresher

Advanced employment law: Contracts, Redundancy and TUPE

Advanced employment law: Sexual Harassment Law

And as always, remember to check your region’s education programme too.

But, for now…

UNISON Learning and Organising Services staff will be on holiday from 24 December to 4 January. If you’re working over the festive period, thank you once again for everything you do. If you have a well-deserved break, we hope you’ll be able to enjoy some rest and relaxation. We very much look forward to seeing you in the new year for more union learning.
